CAMBRIDGE, New Zealand — Just under a year after breaking both her legs during a World Cup ski cross event, Canada's Georgia Simmerling is set to return to the top level of another sport — cycling.

The 29-year-old native of West Vancouver, B.C., will make her return to the Canadian national track team Friday through Sunday for the fifth round of the Track World Cup.

Simmerling's crash at a World Cup ski cross event on Jan. 20, 2018 in Nakiska, Alta., prevented her from going to the Pyeongchang Olympics.

In May, she announced she was retiring from ski cross to focus on cycling. Simmerling, who helped Canada win bronze in the cycling team pursuit event at the 2016 Rio Summer Games, hopes to compete in the sport at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Simmerling is the first Canadian to have competed in three different sports at an Olympics. In 2010, she represented Canada in alpine skiing.
