ROTTERDAM, Netherlands — The Canadian men's water polo team will not qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.

Canada lost 17-9 to Russia in quarterfinal action at an Olympic qualifying tournament on Friday.

The top three teams at the event will earn spots in Tokyo.

Nicolas Constantin-Bicari and Jeremie Cote had three goals apiece for Canada (1-4), Sean Spooner had two and Aleksa Gardijan added a single.

Canada will play France in a placement game on Saturday.

Russia faces Greece and Croatia meets Montenegro in semifinal play.

The Canadian men have made four Olympic appearances, most recently in 2008 in Beijing where they finished 11th.

Canada's women's water polo team has qualified for Tokyo.
