MELBOURNE, Australia — Canada's Milos Raonic will face home-nation favourite Nick Kyrgios in the first round of the Australian Open.

The matchup was announced as part of the Grand Slam event's draw on Thursday.

Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., is ranked 17th on the ATP Tour and Kyrgios is 51st. The two have split their career series 3-3.

Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., will take on Spain's Pablo Andujar when the Australian Open begins Monday at Melbourne Park.

Peter Polansky, also from Thornhill, was still alive in the qualifying tournament when the draw was announced.

On the women's side, Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., is scheduled to play wild card Shuai Peng of China.

Bianca Andreescu of Mississauga, Ont., was on the court in her second-round qualifying match as the draw was being announced.
