The Carolina Hurricanes have signed journeyman forward Lee Stempniak to a two-year, $5 million contract.

The 33-year-old netted 19 goals and 32 assists for 51 points over 82 games split between the New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins in 2015-16.  The B’s acquired Stempniak from the Devils at the Trade Deadline for a couple draft picks in hopes he could help get them into the playoffs. Boston lost a tiebreaker to the Detroit Red Wings, failing to qualify for the second season.

Stempniak, selected by the Blues in the fifth round of the 2003 Draft, was playing on a one-year, $850,000 deal last season.

The native of West Seneca, New York has 184 goals and 236 assists over 790 career games with the Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs, Phoenix Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Winnipeg Jets, New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins. He has six points in 28 career postseason games.

The veteran of 11 NHL seasons, Stempniak has played on nine NHL teams and six since 2013.
