Vancouver Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis took part in Thursday's optional morning practice, a good indication he could be closer to returing.

It was his first time he skated with teammates since injuring his groin in a game against the Anaheim Ducks on Nov. 20.

The 31-year-old is hoping to be back in uniform before the All-Star break, which is January 22-26.

Hamhuis has missed 18 games since sustaining the injury; the Canucks going 10-8 in his absence.
