GLASGOW, Scotland — Celtic strengthened its position at the top of the Scottish Premiership and kept bragging rights over rival Rangers with a 2-0 victory in the Old Firm derby on Saturday.

Second-half strikes from Tom Rogic and Leigh Griffiths ensured Celtic translated its territory into goals after Rangers had hung on during the first half at Ibrox.

Rangers has now failed to record a league victory over its Glasgow rival since March 2012 and trails leader Celtic by eight points only seven games into the season.

Celtic started fast and spurned multiple chances as Tom Rogic was denied by Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham before Leigh Griffiths headed wide when unmarked.

Patrick Roberts's scuffed strike fell to Rogic in the 50th minute and the Australian midfielder was ruthless this time as he shot high into the net on the turn.

Just 10 minutes later, Roberts produced a more impressive assist as his precise through ball found Griffiths, who finished accurately at the near post.
