The CFL on TSN will release its annual Top 50 Players on Tuesday. TSN.ca is previewing what the list could look like with the potential picks for No. 1, in alphabetical order:

Duron Carter, WR, Saskatchewan Roughriders

Carter is one of the best receivers in the league – he was named a CFL All-Star last season after finishing with 73 receptions for 1,043 yards and eight touchdowns – and was a regular on the SportsCentre highlight reel last year.

But what truly makes Carter’s case for consideration as No. 1 on the Top 50 Players is his ability to play defence. Carter’s cameo in the Roughriders’ secondary late last season was highlighted by a pick-six off Bo Levi Mitchell. Riders head coach Chris Jones has alluded to Carter playing more defence this year, which would increase his already significant impact on the field.

Solomon Elimimian, LB, BC Lions

Elimimian was the highest-ranked defensive player on last year’s list, clocking in at No. 4 overall, and all he did in 2017 was break his own single-season record for tackles with 144.

The 31-year-old also racked up two sacks and was named a CFL All-Star for the fourth time in his eight-year CFL career.

Andrew Harris, RB, Winning Blue Bombers

One of the top running backs and national players in the league, Harris set a career high with 1,892 offensive yards last season - 1,035 on the ground and 857 through the air.

That could be enough to make a jump from his No. 12 ranking from last year, as he attempts to gain 2,000 combined offensive yards this season.

Ricky Ray, QB, Toronto Argonauts

Ray came in at No. 27 last year after an injury-shortened 2016 season. The 38-year-old showed he warrants a higher spot when fully healthy by being named the East Division nominee for Most Outstanding Player and leading the Argonauts to a Grey Cup win while playing all but one game last year.

Ray ranked second in the league in passing yards (5,546) and third in passing touchdowns (28) last season.

Mike Reilly, QB, Edmonton Eskimos

Last year’s No. 2 on the Top 50 Players has a strong case reclaim his 2016 spot at No. 1 after being named the league’s Most Outstanding Player last season.

The 33-year-old led the league in passing with 5,830 yards and 30 touchdowns while adding another 390 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

Alex Singleton, LB, Calgary Stampeders

The 24-year-old national linebacker appears primed for a huge jump from his No. 47 ranking of a season ago. In just his second CFL season Singleton finished second in the league in tackles behind only Elimimian with 123 while adding four sacks and an interception.

Singleton doesn’t yet have the long track record of fellow linebacker Elimimian, but was named the league’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player last season.
