The National Hockey League's Trade Deadline is 3 p.m. ET on Monday, Feb. 25, and teams will be making decisions on whether to buy or sell and decide which players can make the biggest difference and hold the greatest value. Check out the latest trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat.

Will the Islanders make moves?

With young assets to put in play and a history of being active around the trade deadline, Lou Lamoriello could be a GM to keep an eye on prior to February 25, according to Larry Brooks of the NY Post.

While noting that he doesn’t know who they will target, Brooks believes the Islanders will not hesitate to make moves and will not wait until the 11th hour at the deadline.

Avalanche in the market for Hayes?

Could New York Rangers forward Kevin Hayes head to the Colorado Avalanche? Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post believes the 26-year-old is on the list of every playoff contender looking for scoring and that the Avs should pull the trigger.

Kiszla says the deal can be had without “mortgaging the team’s future.” And that it needs to happen.

The Avalanche currently hold the third playoff spot in the Central division, though they are tied with the wild card Dallas Stars with 52 points.

Detroit Dealings?

With the Detroit Red Wings well out of the playoff picture, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports that front office personnel met this month in Florida to discuss the state of the team, with a focus on the trade deadline.

She identifies Jimmy Howard and Gustav Nyquist as clear cut candidates to move, but also says the team should listen to offers for any player that is not central to the rebuild.

St. James also points out that there is interest in Luke Glendening, but does not see Nick Jensen moving.

The Red Wings currently have 10 picks heading into the 2019 draft.

Jimmy Greenfield writes in the Chicago Tribune that with two trades already completed, Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman should remain active at the deadline, though it might be difficult.

Greenfield points out that Artem Anisimov has a limited no-trade clause and Brandon Saad has no clause, so both players could be available in a trade.  Also, that a playoff contender could make a play for a young defenceman like Erik Gustafsson.

He says that smaller deals for draft picks are most likely.
