ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Craig Cunningham scored 1:02 into overtime as the Providence Bruins held on to defeat the host St. John's IceCaps 5-4 on Tuesday in American Hockey League action.

Steve Eminger, Rob Flick and Alexander Khokhlachev put the Bruins (11-11-2) ahead 3-0 midway through the second period before St. John's reeled off four straight goals to take its first lead early in the third.

Frankie Simonelli was able to force extra time when he scored for Providence at 17:06 of the third period.

Eric O'Dell had a pair of goals for the IceCaps (10-11-6) while John Albert and Scott Kosmachuk added a goal apiece.

Jeremy Smith made 24 saves for the Bruins as Peter Budaj stopped 30-of-35 shots for St. John's.

Providence went 2 for 5 on the power play while St. John's failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

The Bruins and IceCaps will go at it again on Wednesday in St. John's.
