The incident took place in the third period of Thursday’s contest in Pittsburgh and Demers was given a five-minute major elbowing penalty and a game misconduct on the play.

Bonino was forced to leave the game after the elbow.

"I just mistimed it,” Demers told the Dallas Morning News after the game. “I hope he's all right, I just tried to counter-hit, and it was a little bit too early. It wasn't malicious."

Stars head coach Lindy Ruff didn’t think the hit was at the level of requiring supplemental discipline.

"The Demers play was just reaction to getting hit," Ruff told the Dallas Morning News. "I didn't find anything bad about it."
