LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Dodgers have designated pitcher Mat Latos for assignment after he was winless in five starts since being acquired from Miami 1 1/2 months ago.

The right-hander went 0-3 with a 6.66 ERA in six games for the NL West-leading Dodgers, who obtained him on July 30 in a five-player trade.

The team also reinstated right-hander Carlos Frias from the 60-day DL on Thursday.

Frias last pitched in a big league game on June 30 before being placed on the DL with right lower back tightness. He is 5-5 with a 4.39 ERA in 14 games, including 12 starts, with the Dodgers this season.

The 25-year-old pitcher had a 4.73 ERA in seven injury rehabilitation games with Class A Rancho Cucamonga and Triple-A Oklahoma City. Frias last pitched on Sept. 6 with Oklahoma City against Memphis, when he threw two scoreless innings of relief.
