ANAHEIM, Calif. - Forgive the Calgary Flames if they don't look forward to any more trips to Anaheim.

The past 19 times they visited, they have left with a loss.

Corey Perry, Matt Beleskey and Kyle Palmieri staked the Ducks to a big lead, and two-time defending Pacific Division champion Anaheim held on for a 3-2 victory over Calgary behind Frederik Andersen's 32 saves.

The Flames haven't won in Anaheim since Jan. 19, 2004. Only three players who played for Calgary in that game are still active in the NHL.

Calgary is the first team to lose at least 19 straight on the road to one opponent since Pittsburgh dropped 23 straight at Philadelphia 1980-87.

"They just play as a desperate team. You see it with all their comeback wins and comeback points," Palmieri said. "They're a team that never gives up and knows they can come from behind in the third period.

"When you fuel the fire with the fact that they haven't won here in a number of years, we're just glad we could keep that going."

Jonas Hiller, who spent his first seven NHL seasons with Anaheim before signing with Calgary in July, stopped 29 shots in his return.

Anaheim got to the playoffs five times in Hiller's seven seasons there, but never made it past the second round.

"There were definitely great memories here, and I'm definitely thankful to the organization and to the fans for that opportunity," Hiller said. "It didn't end like I wanted to, but that's the not-so-fun part of the hockey business and it's part of being a professional athlete.

"I always felt really welcomed here. But I'm not here anymore, and I've got to find a way to turn the page."

The Flames, coming off a 4-1 homestand that included shootout wins over the Ducks and New Jersey, spoiled Andersen's shutout bid with 8:58 remaining when T.J. Brodie beat him with a screened slap shot.

Another potential goal by Johnny Gaudreau with 3:11 remaining was overturned by video replay after he was ruled to have kicked the puck in during a delayed penalty.

Jiri Hudler made it 3-2 with 25.4 seconds to play after Hiller was pulled for an extra skater.

"They're a tough team," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. "When you believe that you can come back all the time, you always make a game of it. They do believe that they can come back all the time.

"Every game we play is close. I was hoping that we would have a little bit of a breather in the last 10 minutes, but those things just don't happen."

The Ducks took a 1-0 lead 4:37 in when Beleskey's intended centring pass for Perry caromed off the right skate of defenceman Kris Russell and past Hiller's left skate.

"When you're hot, you're hot," Beleskey said after getting his 10th goal and third in four games. "Sometimes you can't buy a goal, and tonight I get one off a foot.

"I'm just trying to go to the net and do the little things, and hopefully they kept paying off."

Almost 3 minutes later, Hiller got a break when Beleskey's one-timer from the slot hit the left post. But Perry, playing his fifth game after missing due to the mumps, made it 2-0 at 5:04 of the second with his team-high 12th goal and first since Nov. 2.

Beleskey was hit in the skate by Francois Beauchemin's slap shot, and kicked the puck to Perry.

"We have to do better. I mean, we can't just hope we win every game in the last five minutes after being down," Hiller said. "Coming from behind might work once in a while and it shows a lot of character.

"We've got to be ready from the first minute on. We got outworked in the first two periods. You can't just flip a switch."

The Ducks went without a power-play, and they have had no more than three in eight games. Calgary was 0 for 4 with the man advantage, making Anaheim 5 for 43 on the penalty kill the past 14 games.
