USA Olympics captain and 15-year NHL veteran Brian Gionta could soon join an NHL team for the stretch run leading up to the playoffs.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reported Gionta could potentially have an NHL contract by Monday's deadline. Gionta would have to sign with a team ahead of Monday's deadline or he would not be eligible to play for them in the playoffs.

LeBrun reported there are a couple of teams in the Eastern Conference believed to have interest in the 39-year-old, with the Boston Bruins being one of them.

Gionta last played in the NHL last season, finishing with 15 goals and 20 assists in 82 games for the Buffalo Sabres. He's played one game in the AHL this season with the Rochester Americans, netting a goal.

In 1,006 career games in the NHL, the 1998 third round pick has 289 goals and 299 assists.
