LONDON — Goalkeeper Bernd Leno is leaving Bayer Leverkusen to join Arsenal.

The Premier League club said Tuesday that the 26-year-old Leno has agreed to join and that the "deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes."

Bundesliga team Leverkusen also announced the transfer, saying Leno "has penned a long-term deal with the North London club."

Leno, who just missed out on being Germany's third-choice goalkeeper at the World Cup, strengthens Arsenal options in goal under new head coach Unai Emery. He will compete with veteran Petr Cech and David Ospina, who is at the World Cup with Colombia.

"After seven fantastic years ... another very exciting league," Leno was quoted as saying on Leverkusen's website. "But I'm sure we'll meet each other often on the European stage in the future."

Leno made 233 league appearances for Leverkusen after joining from Stuttgart in 2011, and played six times for Germany.

Kicker magazine reported that Leverkusen was receiving a fee of around 25 million euros ($29 million) for the goalkeeper.
