REGINA — Carter Hart was named the Canadian Hockey League's goaltender of the year on Saturday, becoming the first player to win the award in back-to-back seasons, while Alex Barre-Boulet earned player of the year honours.

Hart, a 19-year-old Philadelphia Flyers prospect, finished his fourth season with the Western Hockey League's Everett Silvertips by leading the team to its second Western Conference title and appearance in the WHL Championship Series.

"It's a huge honour to win this award for a second time and it's reflective of the great year we had in Everett," said Hart. "It was great because a lot of things were accomplished — not just on an individual level, but on a team level as well. This was a special group that came together and had a huge run in the playoffs. We had fun going to the rink every day and made a lot of memories together as teammates.

"I'll never forget these guys, who created the tightest group I've ever been with in my WHL career. I'll never forget my coaches, teammates, billet parent Parker Fowlds, and roommate Riley Sutter who was like a brother to me. They all made this moment possible."

Hart is the first recipient in Silvertips history of the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as WHL Player of the Year, and the first goaltender in WHL history to earn the Del Wilson Trophy (WHL Goaltender of the Year) in three consecutive seasons.

The six-foot-two, 185-pound goaltender went 14-5-3 in the WHL Playoffs and was second in wins (14), minutes (1,325), goals-against-average (2.40), save percentage (.921), and tied for second in shutouts (2).

Hart led the WHL this season in goals-against average (1.60), save percentage (.947), shutouts (7), and was fourth in wins (31) while compiling a record of 31-6-1-3 in 41 games. He helped Canada capture the world junior championship tournament in Buffalo, N.Y. in January.

Barre-Boulet of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada led the QMJHL with 53 goals and 63 assists for 116 points in 65 games.

He wrapped up his four-year junior career with 337 points (140 goals, 197 assists) in 263 games, earning an NHL contract in his overage season. Barre-Boulet led the Armada to a QMJHL regular season title before steering them to Game 6 of the President Cup Final.

Barre-Boulet is the first Armada player to win the award and the QMJHL's first recipient since Val-d'Or's Anthony Mantha claimed the honour in 2013-14.

Andrei Svechnikov of the Barrie Colts was named the CHL's top prospect. The 18-year-old forward from Russia, listed No. 1 in NHL central scouting's final North American rankings for the 2018 draft, scored 40 goals with 32 assists and 72 points in an injury-shortened 44-game rookie season.

Jayden Halbgewachs of the Moose Jaw Warriors won the top scorer award. The San Jose Sharks prospect led the CHL with 70 goals and 129 points in 72 games.

Alexis Lafreniere of the Rimouski Oceanic was named rookie of the year after a dominant season leading CHL underage rookies with 80 points, including 42 goals in 60 games.

Nicolas Hague of the Mississauga Steelheads won defenceman of the year. The Vegas Golden Knights prospect set an all-time franchise record for goals by a defenceman with 35, adding 43 assists for 78 points in 67 games.

Drew Bannister of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds was named coach of the year. Bannister led the Greyhounds to a franchise-best record of 55-7-3-3.

The sportsman of the year award went to Aleksi Heponiemi of the Swift Current Broncos while Garrett McFadden of the Guelph Storm won humanitarian of the year. Alexandre Alain of Blainville-Boisbriand was named the scholastic player of the year.
