Young slugger Teoscar Hernández hit a first inning grand slam, his second home run of spring training, as the Toronto Blue Jays topped the Detroit Tigers 6-3 Saturday afternoon in Dunedin.

Hernández, 25, was acquired from the Houston Astros last season and impressed over 26 games with the Blue Jays, hitting .261 with eight homers and 20 RBIs.

Outfielder Curtis Granderson, who was signed in free agency this off-season, continued with his hot bat on Saturday, smacking his fourth homer of the spring in the opening inning.

Jaime García looked sharp on the mound for Toronto, allowing no earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts over three innings.

Toronto's bullpen had a good day as well with Al Alburquerque, Canadian John Axford (three Ks), Craig Breslow (1.1 innings) and Chad Girodo each throwing scoreless innings.

Josh Donaldson was forced to leave the contest in the bottom of the first inning with what manager John Gibbons is calling “dehydration.” Donaldson, who was making just his third appearance in the field this spring, has been dealing with a sore shoulder, but said he was fine after the game.

On Saturday, the Jays sent down right-handed pitching prospects Sean Reid-Foley, Jon Harris and Jordan Romano to minor-league camp. They also optioned first baseman Rowdy Tellez, who was away from the team recently to be with his ailing mother, to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
