Ottawa Senators

NCAA standout Christian Wolanin will make his NHL debut on Thursday night against the Edmonton Oilers.

Wolanin was on the ice for practice Thursday for the first time and took reps on the second power-play unit.

The 23-year-old Wolanin was the Sens' fourth-round pick in 2015. He led the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks with 12 goals and 23 assists in 40 games. He was the first defenceman to lead the Hawks in scoring since ex-NHLer James Patrick in 1982-83.

Head coach Guy Boucher said Erik Karlsson will not play against the Oilers and there is no timetable for his return.

Winnipeg Jets

Patrik Laine was not on the ice for Jets practice Thursday. Laine's status after leaving Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Kings after blocking a shot is still unknown.

Tampa Bay Lightning

Forward Ryan Callahan is out indefinitely due to an upper-body injury sustained Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman told Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times the team expects Callahan to play again this season, though.

"We expect him back, just can't give you a time frame yet," Yzerman said.

Callahan, 33, has four goals and 15 points in 63 games this season. He appeared in only 18 games last season due to a hip injury.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Defenceman Seth Jones will be a game-time decision against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.

Jones, 23, has missed the team's past three games due to an upper-body injury. He has 14 goals and 49 points in 71 games this season.

Forward Brandon Dubinsky will be a healthy scratch for the second straight game. - The Columbus Dispatch.

St. Louis Blues

St. Louis Blues forward Scottie Upshall has been out since March 3 with a knee injury and was originally expected to be out four weeks. But Upshall was back on the ice Wednesday at Blues’ practice for the first time since his injury and might be back sooner than expected.

“It feels really good,” Upshall said. “I’ve been working hard to get back. It’s obviously a huge time of year where having bodies in the lineup, healthy bodies, are crucial. It was a tough injury but I’ve been working real hard to get back with the training staff and the coaches.”

In 61 games so far this season, the 34-year-old has seven goals and 11 assists.

Edmonton Oilers

The team recalled forward Brad Malone from the AHL's Bakersfield Condors on an emergency basis. The Oilers also assigned defenceman Dillon Simpson back to the Condors.

Philadelphia Flyers

Alex Lyon will start against the New York Rangers on Thursday night. - Philadelphia Inquirer.
