The NHL's off-season is upon us and teams are already looking to re-shape their rosters for a more successful 2015-16 season. Keep up to date on the latest trade/free agent speculation and rumours from around the league.

Big Name Shopping

Another name has reportedly been added to the list of available players this off-season, and it’s a big one.

Arthur Staple of Newsday reports New York Islanders RW Kyle Okposo could be available via trade on draft day.

“One of the Isles' longtime core players could be in play when trade talks heat up on the draft floor.

Kyle Okposo, who is entering the final season of a five-year, $14-million contract, could be on the trading block, according to two league sources outside the Islanders' organization.”

Okposo has a very reasonable salary of $2.8 million for next year, which could make him intriguing to cash strapped teams, but will then want a significant raise,  which the Islanders may not want to pay.

“Both sources indicated that nothing appears to be imminent. But with eight teams already committed to at least $63 million on a projected $71-million salary cap for 2015-16, player moves could come fast and furious during draft weekend, and Okposo's extremely modest $2.8-million cap hit could be enticing.”

Staple also reports Michael Grabner, who is also in the final year of his contract, is actively being shopped.

No Love?

Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf are two of the most widely considered to be available players in the league right now.

But Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun reports Kessel may be more likely to be moved than Phaneuf.

“What I’m hearing: Brendan Shanahan doesn’t love Phil Kessel and neither does new coach, Mike Babcock. They want him gone. But they want to make a hockey trade, not make Kessel an expensive garage-sale item. The pair of Shanahan and Babcock doesn’t dislike captain Dion Phaneuf the way they do Kessel.”

Daily Patrick Sharp Update

The most recent teams to be interested in Patrick Sharp, who will almost certainly be traded by the Chicago Blackhawks in the coming weeks, are the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders, according to Larry Brooks of the New York Times.

“Don’t know if Pittsburgh can get Patrick Sharp, but Penguins GM Jim Rutherford, who has identified the need to add a goal-scoring wing to either Sidney Crosby’s or Evgeni Malkin’s side as his top priority, will sure try.

The Islanders also are a team to watch regarding the prospective cap-casualty winger.”

In Return

One of either Eddie Lack or Jacob Markstrom will likely be traded in the coming week or so. What remains to be seen is the return the Vancouver Canucks will get for the goalie they decide to trade.

Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports the Canucks are looking to recoup second and third round picks in this year’s draft, and that Lack or Markstrom would be a good way to get at least one of those picks.

“The Canucks want to recoup second- and third-round picks for the draft next weekend in Florida. Cam Talbot of the New York Rangers and Vancouver’s Eddie Lack top the puck-stopper wish list for teams with real needs — especially Edmonton, Buffalo, San Jose and Dallas.

Talbot and Lack are 27, have a year remaining on palatable contracts and filled in admirably this season for the injured Henrik Lundqvist and Ryan Miller, respectively. So, you can understand the level of interest and the consensus that it would be easier for the Canucks to land at least a second-round pick for the more proven Lack. The 25-year-old Markstrom? Maybe a third-rounder. Maybe even a second with his progression.”
