TORONTO — Curtis Granderson stepped out of the home team's dugout and on to the field at Rogers Centre, but he wasn't wearing the familiar blue and white of a Jays uniform.

Instead, he had on a yellow, white and black "Hot City All-Stars" jerseys, as a tip of his cap to his dad, Curtis Sr., who couldn't make the trip to Toronto for Father's Day on Sunday because he was playing in his weekly softball game.

"I snuck a little bit of the baseball skills from him," said the younger Granderson, a three-time MLB all-star who has hit 325 career home runs over 15 years in the bigs. "A little bit."

Granderson posted several photos of himself wearing his dad's jersey on the field to Twitter, posing with the stadium's jumobtron in the background.

"My dad couldn't be here in #Toronto today because he’s playing softball in our hometown of #Chicago, so I rocked his jersey pre-game (#14 was my high school number). I guess my love for this game runs in my blood. Love you dad, have a great day today." read the tweet, with the hashtag "Happy Father's Day."

The 67-year-old Curtis Sr., has been playing three games every Sunday since before his 37-year-old son was born. The younger Granderson used to attend his dad's games as a kid but as his own baseball career developed their schedules conflicted.

"The last time I saw him play was probably grade school, maybe? Maybe high school," said Granderson in the Blue Jays clubhouse after their 8-6 win over the Washington Nationals. "I think I could drive, so I guess high school."
