A day after acquiring Carl Hagelin, the Washington Capitals have stayed busy, acquiring defenceman Nick Jensen and a 2019 fifth-round selection from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for defenceman Madison Bowey and a second-round pick in 2020.

The Capitals then signed him to a four-year, $10 million contract.

Jensen has appeared in 60 games for the Wings this season, scoring two goals and adding 13 assists. He ranked third on the Red Wings with an average of 20:48 of ice-time per game.

The 28-year-old carries a cap hit of $812,500 and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in July.  He has six goals and 43 points in 190 career NHL games, all with the Red Wings.

Bowey, 23, has one goal and six assists in 33 games this season, his second in the NHL. He was drafted by the Capitals in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft and appeared in 51 games as a rookie last season, posting 12 assists. He did not appear in any games during the team's run to the Stanley Cup last spring.

The Winnipeg native won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2015 world juniors, posting one goal and four assists in seven games.
