Winnipeg Jets superstar Mark Scheifele left Tuesday's game against the New York Rangers with an upper-body injury and did not return to action.

Head coach Paul Maurice wasn't able to provide a major update to the injury following the game, but said it wasn't related to the upper-body injury that knocked him out for 16 games earlier this season.

Scheifele will be re-evaluated Wednesday.

The original incident occurred in the opening period when Scheifele and fellow Jets forward Blake Wheeler collided. Both Wheeler (leg) and Scheifele (right shoulder) appeared to be in pain, but both stayed in the game.

Scheifele was forced to leave late in the second period after taking hits from Rangers defenceman Rob O'Gara and Marc Staal

The 24-year-old has 21 goals and 30 assists over 49 games this season, his seventh in Winnipeg.

Scheifele has already missed 16 games this season with an upper-body injury.

The Jets blanked the Rangers 3-0.
