Lakers net fourth Mann Cup in third period rally against Thunder

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — After spotting the Langley Thunder the first two games in the Mann Cup championship series, the Peterborough Lakers completed the comeback Saturday, winning Game 7 of the senior A lacrosse final 13-9.

It was the fourth consecutive title for the Lakers, who had their hands full at home with the resilient B.C. squad. In fact, it was 9-9 entering the third period at the Memorial Centre and there wasn't much separation between the country's top two teams until the final period of Game 7 when the hosts outscored the Thunder 4-0 to claim another Cup.

The Thunder, who forced Game 7 with a 9-4 win on Friday, came into the series as decided underdogs, but didn't look the part.

Holden Cattoni led the Lakers on Saturday with three goals and six assists, while teammate Joe Resetaritis had two goals and four assists.

Cory Vitarelli and Mark Matthews each scored three goals for the winners and Thomas Hoggarth added a pair.

Robert Church led Langley with two goals and five assists, while Connor Robinson had three goals and two assists. Dane Dobbie and Curtis Dickson had five-point nights — Dobbie had a goal and four assists, while Curtis Dickson had two goals and three assists.

Erik Maas netted a single for the Thunder who were outshot 51-44.
