Defenceman Victor Hedman left Monday's contest against the Columbus Blue Jackets at the end of the first period and did not return.

Head coach Jon Cooper first revealed the news during the broadcast and the team later confirmed he suffered a lower-body injury.

"I don't think it will be too serious," Cooper said during the game. "Obviously going the last two periods with five D is going to be tough."

Hedman played the final shift of the first period but did not come out for the second. Tampa Bay cruised to a 5-1 victory.

Prior to his departure, Hedman logged 8:55 of ice time but was held off the scoresheet. In 53 games so far this season, the 28-year-old has seven goals and 30 assists.

Following their matchup with the Jackets, Tampa Bay will be back in action Tuesday night in Philadelphia against the Flyers.
