The Detroit Lions have placed their franchise tag on pass rusher Ziggy Ansah, the team announced Tuesday. Ansah will make $17.5 million next season if he plays under the franchise tag. There is still time for him to come to a long-term agreement with the Lions.

The 28-year-old Ansah is coming off a 12-sack season for the Lions, his fifth with the team and final year of his rookie contract.

Drafted fifth overall in 2013, Ansah 155 tackles and 44 sacks in 73 career games.

Ansah becomes the second player to receive the franchise tag this off-season after the Miami Dolphins placed the tag on receiver Jarvis Landry earlier this month.
