The Loons need a new captain.

Minnesota United traded the man who wears their armband - All-Star Francisco Calvo - to the Chicago Fire on Friday.

In return for the defender, United receives General and Targeted Allocation Money in 2019 and 2020.

“We thank Francisco for his two-plus years of service with the club,” said Loons sporting director Manny Lagos said in a statement. “He was a big part of our growth into Major League Soccer and has been a great asset to our Minnesota community. We wish him all the best in the future.”

A native of San Jose, Costa Rica, Calvo joined United ahead of its inaugural season in 2017 from Costa Rican side Saprissa.

Calvo has made nine appearances for the Loons this season, scoring once.

Internationally, Calvo has been capped 39 times by Costa Rica and was a member of their World Cup squad last June in Russia.
