Johnny Manziel announced on Twitter Wednesday he will be joining The Spring League, a developmental league that plays two games in April.

The Spring League promotes itself as an elite developmental league and scouting event for professional football talent, based in Texas. All four teams in The Spring League are based in the same Austin location for both practices and games.

It appears Manziel is looking for another opportunity than the CFL to jumpstart his career and get him back to the NFL after contract negotiations with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who hold his CFL rights, hit a snag. The Spring League wraps up in mid-April however, which would give Manziel a month before CFL training camps open.

The Tiger-Cats may have moved on from Manziel as well however, trading for Vernon Adams and signing Bryant Moniz to fill their backup quarterback void since reports of Manziel's contract demands became public. The team released a statement after Manziel announced the news, saying they wish Manziel well as he embarks upon a return to football.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported more than 20 NFL teams are expected to be in attendance to scout Manziel, among other players in the league.
