The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled centre Sam Carrick from their AHL-affiliate Toronto Marlies. To make room for Carrick, the team has sent defenceman Stuart Percy down to the Marlies.

Carrick, 22, was a fifth-round draft pick by the Leafs in 2010 out of the OHL's Brampton Battalion. He has yet to appear in an NHL contest. In 62 games with the Marlies last season, the Markham, Ontario native had 14 goals and 21 assists. He has a lone assist through seven AHL games this season.

With Joffrey Lupul out indefinitely with a broken hand, Carrick's arrival could mean that Mike Santorelli will shift to wing to replace Lupul.

This is Percy's second demotion of the season. Cracking the Leafs' roster out of camp, Percy has appeared in seven games for the Leafs and recorded three assists.

The Leafs, 4-1 victors over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night, return to action on Saturday night when they host the Chicago Blackhawks at the Air Canada Centre.
