MIAMI — Injured right-hander Edinson Volquez has been released by the Miami Marlins, who might bring him back on a minor league contract.
Volquez had Tommy John surgery in August and could miss the entire 2018 season. Despite his release Wednesday, the Marlins owe him $13 million next season, the second year of a two-year, $22 million contract.
Volquez, 34, went 4-8 in 17 starts this year and threw a no-hitter against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
