Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid will not play Tuesday night against the Arizona Coyotes because of an illness, the team announced prior to puck drop.

It's just the second game he's missed all season long, with the first coming on Dec. 3 against the Dallas Stars. In 57 games so far this campaign, the 22-year-old has 31 goals and 52 assists for a team-leading 83 points. He had points in four of his previous five games entering Tuesday's matchup.

While the Oilers are missing their best offensive piece Tuesday, they will get defenceman Andrej Sekera back as he plays his first NHL game of the season following an off-season Achilles tendon tear. He played five games with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors during a conditioning stint.

Following their tilt with the Coyotes, the Oilers will be back in action Thursday at home against the New York Islanders.
