Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera says he's not at his best right now.

The two-time American League Most Valuable Player admitted on Thursday that he doesn't feel well.

"I don't feel well right now," Cabrera said (via Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press). "I'm trying to do whatever I can to go out there and play, but I don't feel really good right now."

Cabrera, 39, is batting .132 over his past 20 games and is contending with a chronic knee issue. He sat out the team's 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Manager AJ Hinch said the absence from the lineup was strictly due to the team going from a night game on Tuesday to a matinee on Wednesday, but he's open to more off days for the 12-time All-Star.

"Moving forward we are going to try to get him a few more regularly-scheduled days off," Hinch said before the game. "Today was strictly because of the noon start. But I may sprinkle in a few more off days and be careful with him."

Cabrera has one year and two option years remaining on an eight-year, $248 million deal and vows to speak to "everybody" before making a decision about next season in what would be his 21st big-league campaign. The native of Maracay, Venezuela is set to earn $30 million in 2023. The option years in 2024 and 2025 come with $8 million buyouts.

In 90 games this season, Cabrera is batting .271 with four home runs, 36 runs batted in and an OPS of .657.

He became the 33rd player to reach the 3,000-hit mark in April.
