Blue Jays Roundup

Yangervis Solarte

We have heard plenty of names on the Toronto Blue Jays roster that could be dealt by the non-waiver trade deadline on July 31, but one new name has emerged.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Jays are apparently shopping infielder Yangervis Solarte who is having a very solid 2018 season, his first in Toronto. According to Feinsand's source, the Jays' asking price for their players has been "extremely high."

The 31-year-old is hitting .240 with 17 home runs and 52 RBI. He also owns an on-base percentage of .294 with a .424 slugging percentage.

Toronto acquired Solarte from the San Diego Padres over the winter and has a team option for 2019 at $5.5 million and a team option for 2020 at $8 million.

Feinsand says teams could be interested in Solarte's versatility as he's appeared at third base, first base, second base and shortstop with Toronto.

Marco Estrada

Toronto is also shopping starter Marco Estrada, according to Feinsand.

The 35-year-old left his Triple-A rehab start in Buffalo on Tuesday with a blister on his right middle finger.

The Blue Jays placed Estrada on the 10-day disabled list on July 13. The starter left the mound after recording just one out in the first inning against the Atlanta Braves on July 10, and an MRI the next day revealed a left glute strain.

Estrada is 4-7 on the season with a 4.72 ERA.

J.A. HappJohn AxfordTyler Clippard

In other Blue Jays rumours, Joel Sherman of the New York Post says the Blue Jays are "pushing harder" to deal starter J.A. Happ as well as relievers John Axford and Tyler Clippard.

Sherman notes that since the pitching market is so cluttered, teams like the Jays might have a tough time trading their players or will be forced to take "inferior returns" if they wait too long.

On Tuesday, Andy Martino of SportsNet New York reported that Toronto's asking price for Happ has dropped from what it was a few weeks ago.

Happ, 35, is 10-6 with a 4.18 ERA and 130 strikeouts over 114 innings pitched this season in Toronto. He played in his first All-Star game of his career earlier this month.

The American will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Axford, 35, and Clippard, 33, are both in their first seasons in Toronto.

Royal Rumours?

Kansas City Royals veteran third baseman Mike Moustakas is getting plenty of trade interest ahead of the deadline next week, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Nightengale says six National League teams and three American League teams have made calls to the Royals about Moustakas.

The 29-year-old is hitting .247 with 20 home runs, 61 RBIs and a .309 on-base percentage over 96 games this season, his eighth with the Royals. Moustakas, was an important part of Kansas City's 2015 World Series team, will be a free agent at season's end.

Nightengale adds the Royals have no intention on trading starter Danny Duffy and wish to keep him with the team. The 29-year-old, who is signed through the 2021 season, is 6-8 with a 4.40 ERA over 21 starts this season.

The Royals are one of the worst teams in the league this season with a 31-69 record.

Padres Looking For A Pitcher?

The San Diego Padres are in the basement of the National League West with a 42-62 record, but it appears they are still interested in adding some proven talent before the trade deadline.

According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, San Diego has "checked in" on New York Mets ace Noah Syndergaard as they continue to look for a talented No. 1 starter of their own.

Syndergaard was placed on the disabled list with hand, foot and mouth disease on Sunday, but the 25-year-old has had a solid season with a 6-1 record and 2.89 ERA over 74.2 innings.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic also reports the Padres are making a "big push" for Chris Archer of the Tampa Bay Rays.

The 29-year-old is signed through the 2021 season.

Archer is 3-4 with a 4.30 ERA and 99 strikeouts over 90 innings pitched this season, his seventh year with the team.

Bullpen Help?

After an impressive 11-game winning streak, the Pittsburgh Pirates are six games behind the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs and three behind the Atlanta Braves for the second Wild Card spot.

With the Pirates being back in the playoff hunt, Rosenthal reports they are looking at a "variety of upgrades, including bullpen help." Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News says the Pirates are showing interest in Texas Rangers reliever Keone Kela.

The 25-year-old is having a great year in Arlington, posting a 3-3 record with a 3.28 ERA, 43 strikeouts and 23 saves over 35.2 innings pitched.

Kela allowed two hits and one earned run over 1.2 innings on Tuesday in a blown save against the Oakland Athletics.
