The Montreal Alouettes have released wide receiver Ernest Jackson and added Canadian quarterback Chris Merchant to their roster among the transactions the team made on Sunday as training camp opened.

Jackson appeared in all 18 games last season for the Alouettes and caught 52 passes for 642 yards and a touchdown.  It was his second year with the team, he posted 60 catches for 767 yards and six touchdowns with the Alouettes in 2017.

The 32-year-old has also played for the Ottawa Redblacks and BC Lions over the course of his seven season CFL career.

He had his best season in 2016 with the Redblacks when he scored 10 touchdowns on 88 catches and 1125 yards, all career highs.

Merchant is a product of the Western University Mustangs.  In eight regular season games in 2018-19, he threw for 2094 yards and 17 touchdowns with 127 completions in 174 attempts.

He also rushed for 255 yards and three touchdowns.
