“Uvis has proven his ability to be a dependable NHL blueliner on a consistent basis,” Panthers general manager Bill Zito said in a release. “He possesses a relentless work ethic and we are excited that he will continue his career with the Panthers.”
A native of Ventspils, Latvia, Balinskis has appeared in 36 games this season, scoring a goal and adding seven assists over 14:38 of ice time a night.
Last spring, Balinskis became the third Latvian player to win a Stanley Cup after Sandis Ozilinsh (Colorado Avalanche) and Teddy Blueger (Vegas Golden Knights).
After winning a bronze medal, Latvia’s first ever at a IIHF World Championship, in 2023, Balinskis will once again represent his country at next month’s Winter Olympics. He appeared in four games for Latvia at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
