BALTIMORE - Orioles centre fielder Adam Jones has soreness in his ribcage and was not in the starting lineup Thursday night against Minnesota.

Manager Buck Showalter said Jones felt pain after his final at-bat Wednesday night in a 4-2 win over the Twins.

Jones wants to play, according to Showalter, who says, "I just thought it would be smart to give him a day."

Jones is a three-time All Star known for his durability. Last year, however, a variety of injuries limited him to 137 games. Before that, Jones played in 162 games in 2012, 160 in 2013 and 159 in 2014.

The injury isn't expected to keep him sidelined for long.

Showalter says Jones has "discomfort there in the rib cage area that we hope can manage in a day."

Jones was not available for comment.
