The playoff picture at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts is a messy one.

All eight teams still have a shot at making this weekend’s page playoff heading into the final two draws of the championship pool on Friday.

Here’s a breakdown of where things stand.

Alberta (Team Chelsea Carey)

Record: 7-2

Schedule: SK, WC

Carey’s crew was the only team in the round robin to post a perfect 7-0 record. On Thursday, they came back to earth with losses to Canada and Prince Edward Island, giving up big 10-point scores each time. Winning one of their last two games on Friday will punch their ticket to the playoffs. Dropping both will make things interesting.

Saskatchewan (Team Robyn Silvernagle)

Record: 7-2

Schedule: AB, ON

After getting blown out by the Northwest Territories on Monday night, Silvernagle has her team playing like a well-oiled machine, reeling off five straight wins. They have a very tough schedule on Friday, but Silvernagle still has a real chance at getting Saskatchewan back in the Scotties playoffs for the first time since 2015.

Ontario (Team Rachel Homan)

Record: 7-2

Schedule: PE, SK

Homan and her rink from the Ottawa Curling Club are coming off an impressive 9-6 victory over the defending champs on Thursday night and are sitting in a very solid position to make the playoffs. Homan will look for her fourth Canadian championship this weekend in Sydney.

Northern Ontario (Team Krista McCarville)

Record: 6-3

Schedule: CA, PE

This is where things start to get interesting. McCarville’s Thunder Bay rink currently sits fourth in the championship pool but will need a very good day on Friday to make the playoffs. Northern Ontario has won five of their last six games.

Wild Card (Team Casey Scheidegger)

Record: 6-3

Schedule: BC, AB

Team Scheidegger may be feeling a little déjà vu at the moment. At last year’s Scotties in Penticton as representatives of Alberta, Scheidegger and company rolled to a 6-1 round-robin record before dropping three of four in the championship pool and missing the playoffs. A similar story is occurring in Sydney this year, as Wild Card finished atop the Pool A standings with that same 6-1 record before having a couple rough games against Ontario and Northern Ontario on Friday. Scheidegger will need to turn things around quick to avoid a repeat performance.

Prince Edward Island (Team Suzanne Birt)

Record: 6-3

Schedule: ON, NO

PEI’s Suzanne Birt has become the crowd favourite at Centre 200 as the only East Coast team left in the field. Team Birt have been setting records all week with their high-scoring games, averaging nine points per contest. Birt can make the playoffs for the first time since 2006 if she can put together another high-octane performance on Friday. PEI has never won the Scotties.

British Columbia (Team Sarah Wark)

Record: 5-4

Schedule: Wild Card, Canada

BC’s Sarah Wark has been on cloud nine all week long in her first Scotties appearance. She jumped out to a perfect 3-0 record before upsetting Manitoba in the tiebreaker to get to the championship pool. However, she’ll need two wins and plenty of help on Friday to make the playoffs.

Canada (Team Jennifer Jones)

Record: 5-4

Schedule: NO, BC

The defending Canadian champions are in trouble, to put it mildly. They haven’t been their best all week, finishing fourth in their pool with a 4-3 record before splitting their games Thursday in championship pool play. Winning both games Friday is a must for Team Jones. Even that may not be enough. Jones has never missed the playoffs at the Scotties in 13 prior appearances.
