David Price pitched four innings of one-hit baseball, striking out five in his spring debut as the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-5 on Thursday.
Ryan Borucki did not fare as well for the Jays (9-11). Toronto's left-hander was tagged for four runs (two earned) in 2.1 innings pitched against the Red Sox (11-8), including a two-run homer in the second inning by catcher Christian Vazquez.
The Blue Jays began to mount a comeback with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from outfielder Teoscar Hernandez. The 25-year-old continues to have a solid spring, and is now batting .375 after going 2-for-4 on Thursday.
Steve Pearce also made his return to the lineup for the Jays, getting the team within two runs with an RBI double in the seventh inning. But that's as close as Toronto would get. Pearce had been out since March 4 with left calf tightness.
There was more positive news on the injury front for the Blue Jays. All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson told the media that his calf issue is nothing to worry about and was simply a cramp that went away quickly. Donaldson is expected to be back in the lineup tomorrow when the team takes on the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater.
Meanwhile, Marcus Stroman continues to rehab his shoulder and according to TSN's Scott Mitchell, is on track to pitch Saturday against the Canadian National Junior Team. If all goes well, the club is optimistic that he could take the hill in the team's opening series against the New York Yankees.
