Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price will make his return Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team announced.

He dressed as the backup to Antti Niemi Monday night against the Florida Panthers after missing the last 13 games with a concussion, but did not see game action. He last played on Feb. 20 against the Philadelphia Flyers when he appeared to incur the injury after taking a shot off the helmet from Flyers defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere

"I wouldn’t be playing tomorrow night if I was nervous about the condition of my head, so I’m very confident,” Price told reporters Tuesday.

“You don’t know how long those types of things are going to take but as an athlete you want to try and get back in there as soon as possible.”

With the Canadiens out of playoff contention, there was speculation Price would be shut down for the remainder of the season, but head coach Claude Julien said Monday that Price was "100 per cent" and ready to go.

“I don’t think that’s the right approach or the right example to set for players,” he said of shutting Price down for the season.

“He’s healthy, he wants to play. He’s not coming back at 90 per cent, he’s 100 per cent healthy right now. You can’t hold a player back, especially a player like Carey, and tell him you’ll miss the next 10 games. I don’t think that’s the right message to send.”

In 43 games so far this season, he has a GAA of 2.98 and a save percentage of .904. Both are the worst of his career.

Price's eight-year, $84 million extension kicks in at the start of next season.

The Canadiens, losers of three straight, sit on the verge of playoff elimination and occupy the 13th spot in the Eastern Conference with 64 points.
