SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Cole McLaren made 36 saves as Halifax downed Saint John 4-0 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Monday as the Mooseheads picked up their fifth straight win and the ninth victory in their last 10 games.

Brock McLeod led the offence for the Eastern Conference-leading Mooseheads (42-12-3) with a pair of goals. Arnaud Durandeau and Joel Bishop also scored.

Walter Flower and Jared McIsaac each had two assists.

Zachary Bouthillier stopped 41 shots for the Sea Dogs (12-41-4), losers of five straight and eight of their last 10.

The playoff-bound Mooseheads moved four points clear of idle Baie-Comeau for top spot in the conference. The Drakkar have played one less game.

The Sea Dogs have already been eliminated from post-season contention.

Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play.

MONCTON, N.B. — Daniel Hardie had a power-play goal and added an assist and Matthew Welsh made 29 saves as Charlottetown blanked the Wildcats.

Zachary Beauregard and Cole Edwards also scored for the Islanders, while Lukas Cormier and Nikita Alexandrov chipped in with two assists apiece.

Moncton goaltender Francis Leclerc surrendered four goals on 20 shots before being replaced by Charles-Antoine Lavallee, who stopped all 11 shots he faced.

Charlottetown (31-18-7) nudged ahead of Moncton (31-19-7) into fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Both teams have already locked up a playoff spot.
