Rangers place F Malone on waivers with plans to terminate contract
The New York Rangers placed veteran forward Ryan Malone on unconditional waivers on Tuesday, with plans to mutually terminate his contract if he clears. According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, Malone, who had been playing for the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL, told the Rangers on Monday that he wanted to pack it in. The Rangers granted the request and placed him on waivers.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, Malone, who had been playing for the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL, told the Rangers on Monday that he wanted to pack it in. The Rangers granted the request and placed him on waivers.
The 35-year-old has skated in 647 games for Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, and the Rangers over parts of 11 NHL seasons. He has 179 goals and 191 assists but was held without a point in six appearances for the Rangers this season.
Malone was a fourth-round pick of the Penguins in the 1999 Draft. His contract was bought out by the Lightning last June and he signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Rangers in September.
