ARLINGTON, Texas - The Texas Rangers will be without Derek Holland until at least mid-June after the left-hander was put on the 60-day disabled list Saturday, a day after he went only one inning in the home opener because of a shoulder injury.

Outfielder Ryan Rua went on the 15-day DL with a right ankle sprain.

Texas recalled right-hander Jon Edwards from Round Rock, and purchased the contract of outfielder Carlos Peguero from the Triple-A club.

The Rangers also received right-hander Stolmy Pimentel on a waiver claim from the Pittsburgh Pirates. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-hander Lisalverto Bonilla (right elbow) was transferred from the 15-day to 60-day DL.

Holland felt tightness on his last pitch of warmups Friday, then threw nine pitches against Houston. He was diagnosed with a subscapular strain in his left shoulder.

General manager Jon Daniels said Holland won't even throw again until a scan shows the injury is healed. The lefty won't have another scan for at least four week. The earliest he could return from the DL is June 10.

It is the latest setback for the Rangers and Holland, who missed the first five months last season recovering from left knee surgery. He finished strong in six games last September before being bothered by shoulder soreness early this spring, though the team said it was in a different area than the problem that is sidelining him now.

Texas was already without ace Yu Darvish, who had Tommy John elbow ligament surgery last month.

Holland and Darvish are among seven Texas players on the 60-day DL.

Texas last season lost 95 games while using the disabled list 26 times (for 22 players). That amounted to 2,281 days lost, 833 more than Arizona, who had the second most, and more than double any other AL team.

Rua also got hurt in the home-opening 5-1 loss Friday against the Astros, injury his ankle while fielding a ball in left field. He started the first five games, and the earliest he could return is April 26.

Peguero hit .340 in 21 Cactus League games while in Rangers spring training camp as a non-roster invitee this spring. He was reassigned to minor league camp April 1, and went 4-for-6 with a double and triple in the first two games for Triple-A Round Rock.

Edwards, who made his major league debut with Texas last season, had a 2.92 ERA in 10 spring games.
