BOSTON - Free agent pitcher Alexi Ogando and the Boston Red Sox reached agreement Friday on a one-year deal.

The contract was expected to be worth $1.5 million, plus performance bonuses.

The 31-year-old Ogando went 2-3 with a 6.84 ERA in 27 relief appearances for Texas last season. The former All-Star didn't pitch after June 3 because of inflammation in his right elbow.

Ogando made his major league debut in 2010 with Texas and was an AL All-Star the next season. He pitched five years for Texas, alternating seasons as a starter and a reliever.

Ogando pitched in relief 18 times for Texas in the post-season in 2010-11, going 2-0 with a 2.37

The Red Sox designated left-hander Drake Britton for assignment. The 25-year-old was 1-1 with a 2.93 ERA in 25 relief appearances for Boston during the last two seasons.
