Apparently the Toronto Blue Jays are hoping to trade star third baseman Josh Donaldson ahead of the non-waiver trading deadline on July 31, but it doesn't appear likely that they'll be able to do so, according to The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo.

"It doesn’t appear he’ll go before the non-waiver trading deadline, but there’s a distinct possibility he could be dealt in August if he clears waivers. At least that’s the Blue Jays’ hope," writes Cafardo.

The 32-year-old Donaldson, who has been plagued with injuries this season, has played in just 36 games. He’s registered five home runs and 16 RBI while batting .234.

Since being acquired by the Blue Jays ahead of the 2015 season, Donaldson has thrived with the team. Two of his three career all-star nominations have come as a Blue Jay. He won American League MVP in 2015, in what was the season that the Blue Jays ended their 21-year playoff drought.

At 45-52, the Blue Jays currently sit in fourth place in the American League East.
