Jackson is an 11-year veteran, spending the first nine years of his career with the St. Louis Rams and the last two with the Atlanta Falcons.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Jackson has rushed for 1,000 yards or more eight time. In 2008, he led the NFL in total yards from scrimmage with 2,334. Last season with the Falcons, Jackson ran for 707 yards on 190 carries with six touchdowns. He added 148 yard receiving on 20 catches.

The Pats' backfield has been riddled by injuries this season. Dion Lewis tore his ACL in a November win over the Washington Redskins, while LeGarrette Blount was placed on season-ending injured reserve after incurring a hip injury during a December 13 victory over the Houston Texans.

In Sunday's 33-16 win over the Tennessee Titans, the Pats used Brandon Bolden and Joey Iosefa at running back. The pair combined for just 87 yards rushing.

Jackson sits 18th on the list of NFL all-time leading rushers with 11,388. He sits behind only the Indianapolis Colts' Frank Gore and Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings among active players.

The Patriots, 12-2, have already clinched the AFC East and currently hold the AFC's top playoff seed. They are next in action on Sunday when they visit the New York Jets.
