The Los Angeles Rams have acquired corner Marcus Peters and a sixth-round pick from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2018 fourth-round pick and a 2019 second-round pick according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The deal cannot be made official until March 14.

Taken with the 18th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Washington, Peters appeared in 14 games for the Chiefs in 2017.

Peters, 25, had five picks last season and led the league in return yards on interceptions with 137. The native of Oakland also recovered two fumbles, returning one for a touchdown.

During a Week 13 game against the New York Jets, Peters threw a penalty flag into the crowd after a Jets' two-point conversion attempt. He was later suspended one game by the club for the incident and fined by the league.

Peters became expendable when the Chiefs signed free agent David Amerson last week and the team will acquire Kendall Fuller when the Alex Smith trade with the Washington Redskins is officially completed, also on March 14. He is heading into the final year his four-year rookie deal and is set to earn $1.74 million this season with an accompanying cap hit of $3.05 million.

The Rams' top cornerback last year, Trumaine Johnson, is a free agent and unlikely to return to the team now that Peters has come aboard.
