A day after general manager Daryl Morey said his team can win the NBA Title, the task for the Houston Rockets just became harder.

The Houston Chronicle reports that point guard Patrick Beverley has elected to have surgery on his injured wrist, rendering him for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.

Beverley, 26, tore ligaments in his wrist during a 110-100 win over the Indiana Pacers on March 23. Beverley hasn't played since and sought a second opinion on the injury before choosing surgery.

In 56 games this season, Beverley has averaged 10.1 points, 3.4 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 30.8 minutes a night. Veteran Jason Terry assumes the starting role in Beverley's stead.

At 50-23 atop the Southwest Division, the Rockets currently hold a half-game lead on the Memphis Grizzlies for the division lead and the second seed in the Western Conference. The team is next in action on Monday night when it visits the Toronto Raptors.
