The Houston Rockets are determined to land forward Carmelo Anthony if he parts ways with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Rockets lost forwards Luc Mbah a Moute to a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers and Trevor Ariza to a one-year agreement with the Phoenix Suns. To fill the void, they plan to ramp up their pursuit of Anthony according to Wojnarowski, who has one year remaining on his deal with the Thunder at $27.9 million.

Rockets point guard Chris Paul has been "advocating" the club add Anthony according to Yahoo's Jordan Schultz. ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported Paul and head coach Mike D'Antoni talked with Anthony's camp over the weekend.

Following the worst season of his career and the Thunder re-signing forward Paul George to a four-year deal, speculation has been building that the Thunder and Anthony will part ways this summer.

Those rumours picked up steam Tuesday when Wojnarowski reported that Anthony was given permission by the Thunder to meet with prospective teams. Both the Rockets and Miami Heat were among teams that met with Anthony and his camp.

According to Wojnarowski, the Thunder have begun exploring trades where Anthony could be moved as an expiring contract and be waived, becoming a free agent once his $27.9 million clears waivers. OKC needs Anthony's permission to waive his no-trade clause, which he has reportedly done in order to facilitate his exit.

Anthony averaged a career-low 16.2 points per game last season on 40.4 per cent from the field. He arrived in Oklahoma City last summer in a trade with the New York Knicks in exchange for centre Enes Kanter and forward Doug McDermott
