Preston Smith is set to hit the open market.

FanSided's Matt Verderame reports that Washington is unlikely to tag - franchise or transition - him, meaning that the 26-year-old defensive end will become a free agent next month.

A native of Stone Mountain, GA, Smith appeared in all 16 contests for Washington last season, recording 53 tackles, 16 quarterback hits and 4.0 sacks.

Taken with the 38th pick of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State, Smith has recorded 24.5 tackles over four seasons, all with Washington.
