The New York Mets are talking to the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles about a trade for starter Matt Harvey according to multiple reports.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports notes that the Rangers’ Jurickson Profar is one of the names connected to the Mets regarding Harvey, but no straight-up deal has been discussed between the two teams.

Heyman notes that the Rangers could seek more for Profar, who has three years of team control left compared to Harvey’s status as an unrestricted free agent after the 2018 season. While Profar's success has not translated to the majors, he was once considered one of baseball's best prospects and has an OPS of .809 in over 400 minor league games.

Harvey – who burst onto the scene in 2012 – posted an ERA under 3.00 in his first three seasons but has fallen off dramatically after a series of injuries. He had a rocky 2017 season, going 5-7 with an ERA of 6.70 that was by far the worst of his career.

The Orioles posted an MLB-worst 5.70 ERA among starting pitchers in 2017, while the Rangers sat 16th at 4.66. Both teams missed the postseason after clinching playoff berths the year before.
