Brendan Rodgers is returning to the Premier League.

The former Celtic manager has been confirmed as the new Leicester City boss after having come to an agreement with the club on Monday evening.

"I'm delighted to be named manager of this fantastic football club," Rodgers said in a Twitter video introducing him. "At Leicester City, the foundations are in place for us to grow and achieve many things. Hopefully, with my experiences and the talent of the players in our squad, we can be successful together."

The Foxes fired manager Claude Puel on Saturday following an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace after 16 months in charge.

Champions in 2016, Leicester currently sits 12th in the table and are 18 points out of a European place.

This is the third Prem job for the 46-year-old Rodgers. He saw his Swansea City side promoted from the Championship in 2011 and after the Swans' first season in the top flight, Rodgers took the Liverpool job ahead of the 2012-2013 season.

In 2013-14, Rodgers led the Reds to the closest the club had ever been to winning the Premiership, but a literal slip-up by captain Steven Gerrard in an April fixture against Chelsea opened the door for Manchester City to pip Liverpool to the title, continuing a title drought that now sits at 28 seasons.

Rodgers was fired by Liverpool in October of 2015 following a lacklustre 1-1 draw with Everton in the Merseyside Derby.

Rodgers joined Celtic ahead of the 2016-17 season and has led the club to two straight Scottish Premier League titles, taking the Hoops current run atop the Scottish top flight to seven straight titles, the club's longest string of domestic dominance since the mid-1960s.

Celtic currently sits atop the table once again, eight points ahead of arch rivals Rangers.

Former manager Neil Lennon is expected to take over at Celtic Park on an interim basis. Lennon, who coincidentally played for both Celtic and Leicester during his playing days, managed the Hoops from 2010 to 2014, winning the league on a pair of occasions.
