According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, the Ottawa Senators are interested in interviewing Toronto Maple Leafs assistant coach DJ Smith as part of their search for a new head coach.

Guy Boucher was fired by the Sens on March 1 with Marc Crawford serving as interim head coach. The Sens finished last in the NHL in 2018-19.

Smith was hired by the Leafs on June 16, 2015 where he has served as assistant coach to Mike Babcock for the past four seasons.

Prior to being hired by the Leafs, Smith spent three years as head coach of the OHL's Oshawa Generals, winning the Memorial Cup in 2015.
